Developmental Screening Program

Our developmental screening program uses the Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ: SE-2/ASQ-3) to support families as they track and celebrate their children's development, promoting healthy child development and school readiness. Between screenings, our staff stays connected with families by offering fun activities they can do with their children, sharing parent education materials, making referrals, and providing information about helpful community resources. We engage families in a meaningful and culturally respectful way in their child's development throughout South King County. This program is funded through Best Start for Kids.

How is developmental screening done? It can be done over the phone or in person and takes about 5 to 10 minutes. The developmental screening tools are used to track and monitor the communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills of children from birth to age 5.

Take the Screening

Here are 3 goals:

Promoting universal screening: All of our children need support in the early years to make sure they stay healthy and happy. Developmental and behavioral screenings ensure that children are making developmental progress in areas such as language, social, or motor development.
Identify possible delays and concerns early and refer children for further evaluation. Screenings can help kids succeed in and beyond their school years. With regular screenings, families, teachers, and other professionals can ensure that young children get the services and support they need as early as possible to help them thrive alongside their peers.
Enhancing developmental supports: Families are children's first and most important teachers. Combining the love and knowledge families have of their children with tools, guidance, and tips recommended by experts can help optimize the developmental support children receive.

Promoting First Relationships (PFR)

Children grow and thrive in the context of close and dependable relationships that provide love, nurturance, security, responsive interaction, and encouragement for their exploration. Promoting First Relationships (PFR) program supports families in navigating these concepts as they build a nurturing relationship with their young children.

These program equip parents with practical, comprehensive, and effective techniques to foster strong, healthy relationships between caregivers and young children from birth to age five.
